THE festive season begins at community Christmas parties in Mandurah and Pinjarra next week with colour and festivities, including Father Christmas, street parades and fireworks spectacular.

CLOSE to 40 floats will form this year’s colourful pageant through the streets for Mandurah’s community Christmas party on Tuesday, December 8, from 6pm to 8.30pm.

The streets and the eastern foreshore will come alive with colour, creativity and carols with a Funland theme and the chance to meet Santa in his special grotto.

Partygoers can also enjoy traditional Christmas entertainment that will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display at 8.30pm.

There will be road closures during the party.

From 5pm to about 8pm, closures include Mandurah Terrace from Pinjarra Road to Peel Street; Gibson, Cooper and Hackett streets between Mandurah Terrace and Sholl Street; Tuckey Street from Mandurah Terrace to Sutton Street; Sholl Street between Church and Gibson streets; and Barrack Lane to Pinjarra Road (behind the Brighton Hotel).

Pinjarra Road from Leslie Street to Mary Street will be closed in both directions, including the old traffic bridge, from 5.45pm until the end of the pageant.

Mandurah Terrace will remain closed from 8pm to 9.30pm between Pinjarra Road and Cooper Street.

All parking on the pageant route must be cleared by 5pm unless otherwise specified.

Water closures will also be in effect in Mandjar Bay within a 100m radius of the war memorial.
