A MAN who said “sorry” to a teller as he stole $500 from a till at Mandurah TAB was fined $400 on Friday .

Lynton John Dellavanza, who appeared via video link from Hakea prison, pleaded guilty to stealing.

Police prosecutor Glen Phillips said Dellavanza approached a staff member who was standing behind a till at Mandurah TAB on May 28, 2018.

Mr Phillips said the staff member went away from the till for a moment and Dellavanza took the opportunity to steal $500 in cash.

The woman saw him and challenged Dellavanza. He told the staff member he was “sorry” as he left the TAB with the money.

Police identified Dellavanza through fingerprints.

The $500 was never recovered and police requested the forfeiture of $500.

Dellavanza said he had been drinking, he was desperate, saw the opportunity and stole the cash.

Magistrate Ryan Bluestein fined Dellavanza $400 and ordered the restitution of $500 to Mandurah TAB.
