Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

CREATIONS from the man cave at Mandurah Art Gallery encourages people to become interested in art and the use of recycling materials.

Painter and sculptor Neil Elliott’s prime objective is to explore, have fun and promote the recycling message at the same time.

He teaches skills associated with recycling, upcycling and repurposing to help people feel empowered to create their own art.

Finding inspiration from found objects, Elliott gives them a new lease on life – reimagining the everyday to reflect happiness and positive experiences.

He also draws inspiration from history and engineering but his imagination is reflected in the fun and somewhat cheeky artworks presented in the exhibition.

A Perth hills-based painter and sculptor, his fun and whimsical flavour has transposed from his paintings to quirky sculptures.

Early on his career he liked to sketch and plan his artworks but later moved to a more organic process allowing the shape and texture of the materials to dictate the artwork.

Meet Elliott for the artist talk on Sunday, May 7 from 10am to 11am and continue on to the official celebration at 3pm.

The exhibition runs until May 20.
