MURRAY residents and visitors will soon benefit from a new multi-use community asset – the Austin Lakes Destination Park.

Progress on the park is well underway with the Adventurescape playground set to open in January.

The $3.5 million, farm-themed Adventurescape is next to the existing two-hectare lake in the Austin Lakes Estate.

The park will feature a 35-metre flying fox and giant pig, which is part climbing frame and part slippery dip.

It will also feature a rope climbing challenge, swings, a balance beam, fence maze, old farm tractors and a custom designed 8.5-metre high windmill climbing frame.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy the large lakeside pavilion and grassed areas.

A skate park, multi-court and oval will be built during the next stage of the development by the end of next year.

The Shire of Murray endorsed changes to the Austin Lakes Estate open space concepts in December after reviewing a report detailing the cost cycle for the proposed infrastructure.
