He said people with disabilities needed shelter from the sun while walking from the main carpark to the centre, as did those pushing wheelchairs.
“Rockingham has disabled underground parking, why not Pinjarra?’’ he asked.
But Shire of Murray chief executive Dean Unsworth said the shopping centre complied with the Australian Standard.
Mr Unsworth said the required number of disabled bays at the centre were in locations convenient to entries, with suitable access ramps.
“Optional disabled parking bays in the undercover parking area would not comply with a new requirement under the Australian Standard, which requires sufficient clearance to enable a wheelchair lifter to move a wheelchair from a car roof rack to the ground,’’ he said.
“This required clearance would make it impractical to locate disabled bays in the underground area.”
