She said Day physically resisted being arrested and struggled with police.

Sen Const Houghton said Day made offensive remarks and swore at police. Day spat towards the officers and blood and saliva landed on an officer’s arm, face, watch and uniform.

Day was taken to the police station where he punched the doors of a holding cell and smeared blood on the walls.

Sen Const Houghton said Day was sedated and taken to Peel Health Campus.

However, the sedation wore off and Day started shouting at patients and staff.

He used offensive language to describe an elderly patient in an adjacent cubicle.

The court heard there was urine on the floor and Day lashed out and his blood ended up on medical staff. He had to be sedated.

Day said he had a “bit of a drinking problem” and he had now stopped drinking alcohol.

He admitted his behaviour was disgusting and he had apologised to police.

Day must pay $205 in costs.
