Dolphin Luca freed from fishing line

DOLPHIN Luca has been freed from fishing line.

This morning Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions staff, with assistance from the Mandurah Volunteer Dolphin Rescue Group and Estuary Guardians volunteers, freed Luca from fishing line that was caught on his dorsal.

The rescue team cheered when the 18-month-old dolphin was finally free of the fishing line.

It has been a four-week operation because Luca’s mother was preventing efforts to get close and Luca was a fast swimmer.
