Eddie Storm receives Medal of the Order of Australia

MUCH loved local entertainer Eddie Storm received the Medal of the Order of Australia from WA Governor General Kerry Sanderson on Friday.

Storm, who turns 84 in June, has been performing in Australia since 1967.

He began his career in England in 1952 as a young band member with the Ted Coleman Orchestra with whom he stayed with for eight years.

He later established himself in WA and quickly became the Tom Jones of Perth and was selected to entertain the troops for two tours of Vietnam in 1969 and 1970.

Storm worked major venues and restaurants in Melbourne and for 26 years his venues included the Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne Concert Hall and In Melbourne Tonight.

These days he performs locally and at major events across WA where he is renowned for his masked performances as Phantom of the Opera.

Storm is expected to retire later this year.
