Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

THE facade of the heritage listed Edenvale homestead at Pinjarra will undergo renovation, thanks to funding from LotteryWest and Alcoa.

Works will include replacement of the veranda’s wooden elements including the floor of the eastern elevation, partial excavation of soil beneath the veranda, installation of steel stirrups to replace existing wooden footings and replacement of the veranda roof.

The Shire of Murray is seeking tenders from suitable contractors.

Of the total cost, $90,000 has been contributed by LotteryWest and $50,000 as part of Alcoa’s Community Grant funding.

The remaining funding will be provided by the council.

Due to Edenvale’s significant heritage, commercial, tourism and community significance, the project was included in the Shire’s 2015-2019 Corporate Business Plan as a strategic priority.

The homestead accommodates a number of community groups and small to large-scale events including the annual Pinjarra Festival and Christmas celebration.

The Edenvale Heritage Tearooms will remain open from 10am to 4pm during restoration work with entry through the back courtyard.
