MANDURAH State Emergency Service deputy manager Phil Bresser was awarded an Emergency Services Medal in the Australia Day Honours List for exemplary service.

The award was one of many awarded him including the National Medal and a Department of Fire and Emergency Services Long Service Medal.

Unit manager Chris Stickland said Mr Bresser well and truly deserved every bit of praise.

“He has led the SES response to many emergencies in Mandurah including two tornadoes, severe winter storms, fire support operations and numerous searches for missing people,’’ he said.

“Phil is always the first to arrive and the last to leave HQ during callouts.

“His dedication and bravery has resulted in this award.’’

SES Regional District Officer Will Blackshaw said Mr Bresser had been an outstanding deputy manager and had guided the growth and development of the Mandurah unit into one of the biggest, best trained and resourced units in the metropolitan area.

“Phil has been an outstanding role model for our volunteers and sets very high standards,’’ he said.

The medal is the fifth awarded to Mandurah SES volunteers.

Chris Stickland and Phillip Petersen were awarded the medal in 1997, deputy manager Paul Dwyer in 2008 and deputy manager Will Norris in 2012. They are all still members of Mandurah SES and no other SES unit in WA has so far matched the record.
