Vanessa SchmittMandurah Coastal Times

LESLIE Street reserve in Dudley Park has been selected as the best place for a fully fenced dog park.

The City of Mandurah has been considering a dog park since 2017, when residents submitted a petition with 562 signatures.

There are 15,489 registered dogs in Mandurah and a dog park will provide opportunities for people and dogs to exercise and socialise.

In April, the City undertook an extensive community consultation seeking direction from the community about seven potential locations.

The Lesley Street reserve was chosen because it had an adequate area, good shading, grass covering and was centrally located.

Use of the park will be significantly increased with a dog enclosure, with about 80 dog owners expected to visit each day.

The enclosed dog park is expected to cost $25,000 a year, which includes picking up dog waste, emptying bins and filling in holes.

The City of Mandurah will consider progressing a detailed design of the dog park and establishing a design working group at Tuesday night’s meeting.
