Expressions on interest for Exchange Hotel redevelopment

Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

EXPRESSIONS of interest in the redevelopment and lease of the Exchange Hotel site at Pinjarra for food and beverage purposes close on June 30.

Shire of Murray is seeking an outcome to optimise public benefit by activating the site and surrounding public spaces, restoring and re-using the site’s significant heritage components in a design that reflects and reinforces the character of the town.

Shire president Maree Reid said the council was not necessarily seeking the highest direct financial return for the site but rather proposals that would deliver a balance of desired outcomes.

At the close of the expression of interest period, submissions will be evaluated and a shortlist of proponents invited to submit a detailed proposal.

The preferred proponent would be likely to be offered the lease next February and would be expected to deliver the development within an agreed timeframe.

The site is on the banks of the Murray River in the central foreshore reserve and a popular day trip destination, less than one hour south of Perth.

Cr Reid said Pinjarra was the focus of significant revitalisation and would benefit over the next few years from substantial public investment in streetscapes, community buildings, public spaces and the river foreshore.
