FALCON bird lover Jamie Howe was amazed to see a kookaburra eating a snake and laughing the whole time.

He said a family of kookaburras – a male, female and two babies – had been visiting his backyard every day for about 10 weeks.

“I feed them mince and they come up to me, about half a metre away,” he said.

“They are beautiful little things.”

Mr Howe said one of the kookaburras brought him the snake to show off.

“He was singing away, thrashing the snake against the post,” he said.

“It took him about 20 minutes to eat the snake.”

Mr Howe said many wild birds frequented his yard.

He is also fond of a peacock at Whitehills Beach.

“He is magnificent,” he said.

“I call him Chooky and he comes running to me when I call him.

“He is naughty because he jumps on parked utes and steals things.

“He’s been there for so long.”
