Mandurah MLA David Templeman recently wrote to Transport Minister Troy Buswell seeking funding for safer access to Lakelands from Mandurah Road.

Last week, Mr Templeman asked Mr Buswell for immediate action to make the stretch of Pinjarra Road on both sides of the Serpentine Bridge at Barragup safer, after meeting with about 100 residents.

Mr Templeman wants an existing 60km/h sign moved further east past the bridge to alert motorists travelling west that they are entering a built-up area.

He said Pinjarra Road carried an increasing number of vehicles and while a number of retirement complexes, including Riverglades Resort and Mandurah Gardens Estate linked to Pinjarra Road, safety for the mainly older citizens was paramount.

He has also asked Western Power to improve the inadequate street lighting on the section of road.

‘Just a few weeks ago, one of the residents of Mandurah Gardens Estate was hit while attempting to enter the village by a vehicle travelling west with no lights,” Mr Templeman said.

‘Visibility due to the time of day was poor.’

Mandurah Gardens Estate residents have called for a minimum of two new streetlights ” as well as the signage change ” as soon as possible.

‘It is time for a review of all speed limits along Pinjarra Road,’ Mr Templeman said.
