Father inspires Falcon resident to Stride4Stroke in November

FALCON woman Bianca Steinbock (22) truly understands the impact stroke can have on a loved one.

Her father Brad experienced a stroke earlier this year. He was just 54.

The stroke happened in an instant.

It not only changed his life but also Bianca’s as she took on the role of her father’s carer.

In November, Bianca will Stride4stroke to help raise awareness of the disease, to support her father and raise money for vital Stroke Foundation programs.

“I am passionate about giving back to the Stroke Foundation through the Stride4stroke campaign because Dad has made enormous progress and I am aware this is not the case for all,’’ she said.

“I would like to see more services available to help people in his age group.

“The beauty of Stride4stroke is you can set your own physical activity goal.

“I will be walking my dog daily, which is something I can do with Dad.

“As an added bonus, I will be reducing my own stroke risk by being physically active.”

Stroke attacks the brain and can strike anyone at any age.

This year, about 330 strokes will be experienced by people in the Canning area but it can be treated and it can be beaten.

Bianca is encouraging the community to follow her lead by taking part in Stride4stroke in November or donate to her efforts.

“Most of the people I know have a personal connection to stroke whether it be a parents, grandparents, friends or colleagues,’’ she said.

“I ask the community – who will you stride for this November?”

Stroke Foundation WA state manager Jonine Collins said funds raised would go towards programs like StrokeLine and follow up services to help survivors and their families transition to life after.
