FREEING a venomous snake from netting is tricky business as snake catcher Allison Dixon found yesterday.

The Western Brown snake became tangled in bird netting in Melros yesterday.

“He was only little, about four feet long,” Ms Dixon said.

“I was cutting with my left and the scissors were blunt.”

To make things trickier, Ms Dixon said the snake was terrified and the dogs wanted to get out.

“He was after mice,” she said.

“I had him by the bitie end, but he was getting a bit worried because he’d probably never been handled by a human before.

“Hopefully he’ll grow up to be a big snake.”

After two or three minutes of fiddling work the snake was freed.

Ms Dixon said the snake is fine and will be released into the Yalgorup National Park this afternoon.
