First land released in the Peel Region’s future employment hub

Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

THE Peel Region is a big step closer to becoming a major agri-business and innovation hub in WA.

The first lots of land in Peel Business Park – a major jobs precinct for industrial and agricultural investment at Nambeelup – have been released.

Peel Industrial Park has been in planning for more than a decade and today’s release of 12 lots represents the first allotment within the 120 hectare first stage that forms part of the wider 1000-hectare park.

The Stage 1 release marks the delivery of a State Government election commitment to establish the Industrial Lands Authority and streamline development of Peel Industrial Park.

It is a project of the newly formed Industrial Land Authority within LandCorp, Peel Development Commission and the Shire of Murray.

An earlier expression of interest project showed early demand for the lots with nine agri-businesses or general industrial companies wanting to relocate or start new businesses at Peel Business Park.

Construction and land development of Stage 1 is expected to create more than 300 jobs with a further 160 jobs once the first stage is fully operational.

Part of Stage 1 will be construction of a renewable energy micro grid expected to be the biggest for an industrial development in Australia.

The lots will also have high speed internet and reticulated gas services from the Bunbury-Dampier gas pipeline.

LandCorp will award the first construction contract for the trunk infrastructure works next month with planned start early next year.

Regional Development Minister Alannah McTiernan said Peel Industrial Park would be an incubator for new and emerging agriculture, research and development and technology enterprises as well as general and light industrial and commercial business.
