MANDURAH Baptist College Year 7 students held a School Food Appeal and collected non-perishable food items for those in need.

A Free Dress Day with an Op Shop theme was also held to raise money for the cause.

Each student was allowed to dress up if they donated at least one non-perishable food item.

Senior school spokeswoman Lisa van Til said winter storms and cold nights were a harsh reminder that many people in the community were in desperate need of help.

“With winter here, we are preparing for one of our busiest times of the year.

“Demand for food relief remains high with more than 51,000 West Australians seeking help each month – around 16,000 are children.”
