Gabin Robins is the new chief executive officer of Coolibah Total Caring

Current chief executive Don Pember retires this year after 25 years.

Mr Robins is a senior health sector executive with more than 30 years of experience.

He holds formal qualifications in business and health system management and has held chief executive officer appointments in public hospitals, statutory authorities, government business enterprises, the not-for-profit sector and commercial companies.

Mr Robins has worked extensively in accident compensation, rehabilitation and insurance systems including the Transport Accident Commission, Victorian Accident Rehabilitation Council and was a member of the Veteran’s Review Board.

He has a strong background in health system reform and design.

With extensive experience in the aged care sector having directed the construction and subsequent management of aged care facilities, he is a member of numerous Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and Commonwealth Department of Health panels providing governance, assessment, business management and quality advisory services.

He also has experience in health service delivery and development in the indigenous sector and has undertaken substantial international consulting in areas such as public sector reform, health system development and planning, governance and financial reform.

He is expected to take up his appointment on May 23.

Board chairman Bill Hatton said Mr Pember had provided the guidance and expertise that had seen Coolibah grow from humble beginnings to become one of the largest and most innovative not-for-profit care providers in WA.
