Greenfields: The last DVD store in the Peel is thriving

Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

WITH the introduction of Netflix and streamed movies, DVD stores are pretty much a thing of the past.

But not in Greenfields, where Mega Movies, the last DVD store in the Peel, is thriving and doing a roaring trade.

“People are really glad we are here and we hope to survive for at least another five years,” manager Jodie Moir said.

Mega Movies changed its name from Blockbuster last year and became an independent concern.

Blockbuster stores on Pinjarra Road and at Halls Head had already closed.

Most popular are TV series and the realistic prices.

Ms Moir said customers were also keen to continue buying DVDs.

She believes the increasing cost of leases is also a prime reason why DVD stores closed.

Although Netflix has made a huge difference to the downturn in movie hire, she said customers could still not get enough of them.

“It’s cheaper than streaming services and membership is free,’’ she said.

For more than 12 years, the store has contributed to the local community, including K9 Animal Rescue and Surf Lifesaving.

Customers travel from as far afield as Port Kennedy, Dawesville and Lake Clifton to choose their entertainment.
