Growing for the future

ARMED with trowels and mallets, an army of volunteers descended on Janis Street Reserve on Sunday for National Tree Day.

More than 100 members of the public, from toddlers to seniors, helped beautify the Halls Head reserve by planting thousands of native trees and shrubs in just a few hours.

The reserve has been significantly transformed since the annual tree planting event began five years ago. The restoration of the reserve is now complete. By regenerating the reserve, volunteers have improved the aesthetic amenity of the area while providing habitat for local fauna, and helping to increase local biodiversity.

The event was supported by the City of Mandurah, Planet Ark, Bushcare and Coastcare volunteer groups, Men of the Trees Peel, Carramar Native Nursery and Mandurah Toyota.
