HALLS Head father of five David Tams hopes to run “or crawl” around a running track in Bunbury for 24 hours this weekend .

The aim of his ambitious plan is to raise money for finding a cure for diabetes and respite for his daughter May (3), who has Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes.

“On the 2nd of February this year, I was at work when my wife called me and said our daughter was in hospital and had type 1 diabetes and was about to be transfered to PMH,” he said.

“It was the worst day ever.

“Those days we spent in hospital (ICU and on ward) with her after diagnosis were terrifying.

“There is no cure either.”

Mr Tams hopes to get a $2000 constant glucose monitor for May, so she does not need to prick her fingers every blood test.

With five children and a local carpentry business, Mr Tams has not had much time to train for the running event.

“I am pretty scared about it, to be honest,” he said.

“24 hours and stupid 400m circles… I can do this.”
