Hefty fines for catching 98 undersized crabs in Coodanup

FOUR people were fined $4900 and must pay a $500 mandatory penalty after they caught 98 undersized crabs in Coodanup.

Hsin-Feng Hsieh, Ka Chun Wong, Yi-Fi Zou and Lin Lixiang entered endorsed guilty pleas to possessing totally protected fish charges in Mandurah Magistrates Court this morning.

Department of Fisheries prosecutor Dean Gregory said the four men used a scoop net at Coodanup reserve on November 17.

When they came to shore, Fisheries officers inspected two buckets and found 98 undersized crabs. The crabs averaged in size from 98mm to 124mm.

The men each sent in letters to the court to apologise.
