A MUSICAL adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling is Murray Music and Drama Club’s latest offering.

Honk is set in a farmyard, home to a diverse range of animals and birds but the ugly member of the duckling family leaves home, upset that he is so different to his siblings.

Opening night was slow but sparked up after the interval.

A cast of more than 30, including able and enthusiastic youngsters, takes on at least two roles each.

Highlights include Jackie Creelman and Jodie Mars’ humorous double act as two sophisticated cats, Darren Bilston as a French cat, Sam Ferguson as mother duck Ida and Lain Adam enjoying a role he plays as a sort of Prince Philip meets John Cleese.

The costumes are impressive and the set inventive with frogs at one point rolling around the stage on cleverly designed lily pads.

Honk is supported by a seven-piece band and runs for two more weekends.
