HorsePower State Games coming to Pinjarra

RIDERS with disabilities from all over the state will return to Pinjarra for the Community TAB 2019 HorsePower State Games, on Saturday, September 7.

HorsePower Australia executive officer Kelly Mansfield said the State Games were a major highlight of the year for their riders.

“With over 600 participants of all ages and abilities attending centres around WA on a weekly basis, this is the one annual event where everyone comes together to showcase their abilities and skills in a fun social setting,” she said.

“People with disabilities and their families can often experience isolation within their community particularly in regards to community events and sporting opportunities.

“The Community TAB State Games provides individuals with an opportunity to participate in a fun, safe and welcoming environment leading to improved confidence, self-esteem and the development of new friendships.

“The most creative competition on the day is the mounted fancy dress with participants, volunteers and families putting so much effort into coming up with new looks for our horses and riders.

“The State Games brings so much joy to all involved and it’s a great fun day out for the whole family to enjoy.”

Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) chief executive Richard Burt said the partnership with HorsePower was very close to the hearts of all staff at RWWA.

“Our staff have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the State Games in previous years, and they will be there again this year helping set up prior to the day and on the day helping participants, leading horses and running activities,” he said.

The 2019 State Games is a family friendly event held at the Murray Mandurah Centre at Fairbridge Village.

HorsePower Australia is a voluntary association of member centres, which provide equine facilitated programs in a safe, healthy and stimulating environment that empowers people with diverse abilities to break through barriers using the power of the horse to develop new skills and discover new abilities.
