The Mandurah Volunteer Water Rescue Group cadet was awarded a scholarship to take part in the trip.
Jack became involved in sea rescue through his father Brian, who is a senior skipper for the group.
‘He has spent a lot of time on the water,’ Mr Saggers said.
‘Jack comes out with me a lot and has a restricted skippers ticket.
‘He has his own dingy and motors around.
‘As a cadet, he learns about rope handling, chart work and navigating.’
Jack hopes to join the Navy after he finishes his schooling at Frederick Irwin Anglican School.
