Jack prepares to set sail

The Mandurah Volunteer Water Rescue Group cadet was awarded a scholarship to take part in the trip.

Jack became involved in sea rescue through his father Brian, who is a senior skipper for the group.

‘He has spent a lot of time on the water,’ Mr Saggers said.

‘Jack comes out with me a lot and has a restricted skippers ticket.

‘He has his own dingy and motors around.

‘As a cadet, he learns about rope handling, chart work and navigating.’

Jack hopes to join the Navy after he finishes his schooling at Frederick Irwin Anglican School.
