Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

LAKELANDS is almost ready to open its doors and announce the winners of the Local Heroes campaign.

Local residents were asked to nominate someone they thought was making a positive contribution to the community.

That was narrowed down to three finalists and now Lakelands is asking its Facebook friends to decide who the most worthy Local Hero is.

People are being asked to view the three finalists and vote via the Lakelands Facebook page.

The three finalists are Megan Turner who works with Lakelands Primary School P&C to raise funds, Ma Rollo who is fighting to end homelessness in WA and Amber Gilkes who is generating awareness of XYY syndrome and supporting sufferers.

As a voting incentive, one voter will be chosen at random to win a $250 Lakelands voucher.

The Hero with the most votes will win a $2500 Visa Card and be announced at the official launch ceremony on Thursday, June 22.

Lakelands retail manager Christine Gerstmayr said the campaign was about recognising the great people in the community.

“We are joining their community so it’s important for us to get to know them better,’’ she said.

Lakelands will include a Coles supermarket, a Kmart discount department store, an Aldi supermarket and Coles Express and 38 specialty food and service stores.
