Layers wins artist Orr Mandjar Art Awards People’s Choice Award

ARTIST Kellie Orr won the 2017 Mandjar Art Awards People’s Choice Award, attracting more than 300 votes for her work Layers.

Orr also won the highly commended corporate award.

More than 4500 people voted for their favourite artwork during the exhibition at the Mandurah Art Gallery.

Orr said she was “blown away” by the support she received from the show, particularly people who contacted her later to discuss art.

She said her painting concerned the layers of personality people expressed in different circumstances.

“The painting is about how each person has layers of personality they express in different circumstances; one layer preserved for the public, one for colleagues, one for friends and one for closest relationships,’’ she said.

The People’s Choice Award was sponsored by Halls Head Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank.

This year, there were 232 artworks in the exhibition with an estimated 11,000 visitors.

Layers will remain on display until April 21.
