LOCAL businesswoman and registered nurse Lynne Rowlands will contest the seat of Mandurah for the Liberals following the resignation of David Forbes.
Mr Forbes resigned after details of his social media posts were revealed.
Ms Rowlands’ family has lived in Mandurah for four generations and she has twice run in City of Mandurah council elections.
As a small business owner for 11 years, she is backing small business in Mandurah.
“People don’t realise how hard small business has it,’’ she said.
“People think we are loaded but times are tough for everyone.
“But without small business, we would not have a community.’’
Ms Rowlands identified the fight against methamphetamine and the Liberal party’s announcement of $5 million to increase the capacity of the Mandurah Police Station as issues she would campaign on.
As a registered nurse, she has been involved in helping people deal with their meth addictions, which she said affected patients, family, police and medical staff.
“It’s not nice for the patient and often traumatic for everyone else involved,” she said.
Other interests include education and the environment.
