MADORA Bay resident Ella Taylor was one of 59 participants in the 2017 Youth Parliament program that finishes today.

The YMCA WA program provides young people with opportunities to develop their leadership skills and learn about the political process in a unique forum.

Ella said she decided to apply because it sounded like an interesting experience and offered the chance to get voices heard and represent young people.

The program, at Point Walter Recreation Centre and Parliament House, allowed young people to have a Parliamentary experience while developing leadership skills, making new friends and growing a network of like-minded people who care about the issues young people are facing.

The 15-year-old believes the biggest challenge for young people in WA is the ever-changing world, particularly climate change and job prospects.

“With the growing boom in technology, I think we should have a wider range of subjects and learning opportunities so we are prepared for the future jobs in that area,’’ she said.
