The weather was rough and the man was unable to reach his safety equipment.

Water Police towed the vessel back to Mary Street jetty.

St John Ambulance were called as the man became unwell. He was taken to Peel Health Campus for assessment.

In addition to having the appropriate safety equipment and having it accessible in the event of an emergency, Water Police urge members of the boating fraternity to seriously consider the weather conditions and sea state before embarking on a day on the water. Boating enthusiasts should also consider their vessel and their boating capabilities and limitations.

“Don’t be complacent as if you get into trouble, it is not only your life that may be at risk but also that of those tasked to rescue you,” a spokesman said.
