A MAN was caught drink driving 145km/h in a 100km/h zone in Dawesville.

Colin James Jackson pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h or more, exceeding 0.08g of alcohol per 100mL of blood and no authority to drive when he appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday.

The police prosecutor said Jackson was driving a Holden Commodore sedan on Old Coast Road on May 9.

A mobile speed detector clocked him at 145km/h.

The prosecutor said Jackson had a record and had never held a driver’s licence.

Jackson told the court it was sheer stupidity.

“I jumped in a mate’s car because we wanted to get back down to Lake Clifton,” he said.

Jackson was fined $1400 and cannot apply for a licence for at least eight months.
