Mandurah court: man broke into car and slept in it

A MAN who broke into a car and slept in it was fined $1300 when he appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court today.

Geoffrey Shepherd (35) pleaded guilty to two counts of trespass, two counts of criminal damage and two counts of breach of bail.

Police prosecutor Tamara Read said Shepherd walked into a storage shed at Lockdown Security on Peel Street on July 6 and was confronted by the owner and staff.

Sen Const Read said Shepherd was at a unit on Sholl Street on July 10 and knocked on the front door and windows and banged on a fence. Police were called and Shepherd was taken to Peel Health Campus because he was injured.

The court was told Shepherd threw a brick through a window of a car. Shepherd then gained access to the car and slept in it. When the owner of the car came back, police were called.

Shepherd said he had broken feet from jumping a fence and was on medication when he broke into the car.

Shepherd must pay $100 in compensation for the broken window.
