A MAN threw a fork at an eight-year-old girl, causing prong marks on her arm, Mandurah Magistrates Court was told today.
The man pleaded guilty to common assault in circumstances of aggravation.
Police prosecutor Tamara Read said the man was in a relationship with the girl’s mother.
The man was with the girl at her house earlier this year while the mother went to the gym.
Sen Const Read said the girl refused to eat her dinner and the man threw the fork from 2m away. The fork bounced off a chair and hit the girl.
The man represented himself and said the girl was “out there.”
He said he regretted his actions as soon as it happened.
The relationship with the girl’s mother ended after the incident.
Magistrate Anne Longden said it concerned her the man highlighted the girl’s bad behaviour.
“There was an inherent risk in doing what you did,” she told the man.
He was placed on a 12-month community based order with program requirements.
