Mandurah court: man had toy gun in shopping centre carpark

Vanessa SchmittMandurah Coastal Times

A MAN who had a plastic toy gun tucked into his pants at the Greenfields Woolworths carpark was fined $800 in Mandurah Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Anne Longden said it was a seriously stupid thing to do.

Joshua Anthony Carrier (18) pleaded guilty to pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear on Friday.

Police prosecutor Sean Discomb said the victim was in his car on December 17 and saw Carrier walk past and lift his shirt.

The victim saw the firearm tucked into Carrier’s pants and called police.

Police attended and found a toy gun under the passenger’s seat.

The lawyer said the victim did not know Carrier and Carrier did not mean to cause fear.

She said Carrier had the toy gun because the windows would not go up on the car.

Carrier had reached up his shirt to scratch and the gun may have been visible.

Ms Longden said she was dubious about Carrier’s excuses.
