Mandurah family get behind Cupcake Day for RSPCA

By Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

CUPCAKES to combat cruelty is the focus for this month’s major fundraiser for the thousands of animals that come into the care of RSPCA WA each year.

Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is on Monday, August 15, and the animal welfare organisation is calling on all WA animal lovers to shake off their aprons and grease their cupcake trays to help provide welfare services.

Among them will be Mandurah Terrace father and daughter duo Jirka Just and 17-year old Alex.

RSPCA WA community engagement executive manager Maree Daniels said Cupcake Day was a positive way to raise much-needed funds for RSPCA WA.

She said those participating did not need to be a master chef to get involved, just animal lovers who wanted to make a difference.

“The reality is that although we may find it hard to believe that animal cruelty happens, it sadly does,” she said.

“By participating as an RSPCA Cupcake Day host or by indulging in a cupcake event on the day, you’ll be supporting the fight against animal cruelty and helping keep our inspectors on the road and with the rehabilitation we provide through our Animal Care Centre in Malaga.

“Every dollar counts when it comes to our rescue work and it’s fantastic that so many local animal lovers choose to sign up and help us to raise much-needed funds during Cupcake Day.”

The concept is simple – during August participants can hold a cupcake day event at their workplace, at home or with friends, with every dollar going to help animals in need.

“We think there’s no better way to help RSPCA WA than by baking, icing, selling and eating cupcakes during August and the fact that it can be combined with a morning tea for friends and work colleagues is just the icing on the cake,” Ms Daniels said.

Funds raised through Cupcake Day will directly help all creatures great and small across WA.

RSPCA WA relies on donations and community support to generate more than 90 per cent of the funds required to sustain its animal protection work, as only six percent is covered by a grant from the State Government.
