Mandurah hairdressers claim International Hairdressing Society awards

TWO young hairdressers at a Smart Street Mall salon have won awards in the International Hairdressing Society spring summer competition.

Junior apprentice of the year Jessica Atkins (19) also won awards for men and women’s hair cuts.

The Hey Good Looking apprentice, who was a student at Mandurah Catholic College, is in her third and final year and next year takes off for Cambodia with Hair Aid on a short trip to teach underprivileged people about hair cutting.

She plans to start fundraising after the New Year to raise money to by items such as combs and scissors to take with her.

Jessica hopes to become a stage artist, involved in hairdressing displays and demonstrations.

Former Mandurah Senior College student Taylor Read (23) won a swag of awards for cutting and styling and hopes to travel and one day own her own salon.

Both studied at the Taylor Weir College in Perth after leaving school.

It’s the sixth hairdressing competition the two have entered.
