Mandurah man can stop working seven days a week after winning $2m Lotto prize

A MARRIED couple from Mandurah is the first in WA to claim their $2 million slice of the $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw.

The husband and wife were among three Division One winners produced across the State – the other two tickets remained unclaimed.

Working seven days a week for the past 30 years, the husband said the multi-million dollar win meant he could spend more time with his family and less hours at work.

“There were days I was working up to 18 hours,” he said.

“This will help me reduce my work hours so I don’t have to work so hard – it makes life a whole lot more comfortable.

“This is part of our retirement fund.”

The regular players said it was a spur of the moment decision to purchase the ticket which delivered them their multi-million dollar prize.

“I was grocery shopping and thought bugger it, I’ll get myself a few tickets,” he said.

“I bought four and it was the second ticket which was the $2 million winner.

“I was pretty relieved to hand over the ticket to be honest, even though my wife and I had checked and re-checked it quite a few times.

“It wasn’t until Lotterywest confirmed the news that it really started to sink in.”

The Mandurah couple purchased their winning ticket from Mandurah Greenfields Newsagency. The store is no stranger to Lotto luck, selling a $1.4 million Superdraw ticket in June last year.

Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from WA’s other two Division One winners sold at The Lucky Charm Baldivis and Warrick’s Newsagency in Northam.

Last year Mandurah Performing Arts Centre received a grant of $336,000 to support participation in performing arts by disadvantaged people from across the Peel Region.
