Mandurah man charged over alleged carjacking, assault

POLICE have charged a Mandurah man with a string of offences after he allegedly assaulted a woman and stole the car of another on Monday.

Police allege that about 8.30pm the man assaulted a woman in her 20s who was known to him, before fleeing the Mandurah residence.

About 10 minutes later, he allegedly approached a woman at Mandurah train station as she was getting out of her car.

The man allegedly used a hammer to smash a window to open the car door.

The woman was able to get out of the car before the man drove off.

The car was found abandoned in Hampton Road in Pinjarra yesterday.

The man has been charged with deprivation of liberty, threatening to kill, possession of a firearm in circumstances of aggravation and no authority to drive.

He has also been charged with two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, aggravated armed robbery, aggravated home burglary and commit and aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to appear before the Mandurah Magistrates Court today.
