Mandurah: man charged with destroying road paint marking machine

POLICE have charged a 38-year-old Furnissdale man after he allegedly drove a stolen Subaru into a paint marking machine on Pinjarra Road on Monday and destroyed it.

Police believe between 8pm and 9.30pm, the man had an argument with a person known to him before driving away in their vehicle, a Subaru Forrester. Police claim the man did not have permission to take the vehicle.

Around 9.55pm, police allege the Subaru was travelling along Pinjarra Road towards Anstruther Road in Mandurah when the driver drove into a paint marking machine that was in the middle of closed lanes on Pinjarra Road.

The paint marking machine was destroyed in the crash and the Subaru was extensively damaged.

It is further alleged the man left the vehicle and walked away before being detained by members of the public until police arrived.

The man has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and criminal damage.

He is due to appear before the Mandurah Magistrates Court on May 8.
