MANDURAH MLA David Templeman is delighted the Federal Government has committed $2 million to the proposed Peel Youth Medical Service’s Youth Health Hub.
He said it was now time for the State Government to fund the balance of the $6million project.
At the Billy Dower Youth Centre in Mandurah last week, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull confirmed his pre-Federal election promise to fund $2million towards a site and design concepts for the centre.
Mr Templeman said he would raise the issue of State Funding with Regional Minister Terry Redman in Parliament this week and would argue the shortfall should be funded through Royalties for Regions.
He said the project had strong bipartisan support, would allow a range of youth medical services to be co-located in a purpose built facility and he understood the City of Mandurah had already identified suitable land.
“I will highlight to the Minister that Peel has not received any substantial funding for health related projects through Royalties for Regions compared to other Regions in WA and that the Peel Youth Medical Service’s Youth Health Hub is acknowledged as a number one priority for the region,’’ he said.
If WA Labor was elected in March, he would ensure the project was funded through Royalties for Regions.
