A COUPLE on the run from police left a two-year-old child alone while they allegedly tried to escape custody last week.

Mandurah detectives were seeking 34-year-old Edward Norman Walley and 30-year-old Anain Victoria Whitehead.

Police were on patrol in Mandurah on September 9, when they saw a man and a woman riding a bicycle on Forrest Street, in the company of a child.

They followed the pair to a house on Forrest Street.

When they were spotted, police claim the man and woman ran from the area, leaving the two-year-old boy behind.

The woman was located soon after and identified as Ms Whitehead.

The man she was with was not found and his identity has not been confirmed.

The relationship of the child to the two people on the bicycle will not be released.

Police took the child into their care and appropriate arrangements for his ongoing care will be arranged.

Detectives are still looking for Edward Norman Walley, who was keeping company with Ms Whitehead.

People should not to approach him, and are asked to call police immediately on 131 444.
