Staff WriterMandurah Coastal Times

POLICE have charged a man over an armed robbery he allegedly committed with a black diver’s hood covering his face.

About 4.30pm yesterday a man entered a newsagent off Mandurah Terrace.

He approached the counter wearing the mask and carrying a bag before asking a staff member for cash and cigarettes.

The staff member asked the man to remove the mask and he allegedly then removed a hammer from the bag and held it in a threatening manner.

The staff members ran out of the store.

The man jumped over the counter and removed an amount of cash from the register as well as several packs of cigarettes before running from the store.

A number of people from a neighbouring store chased after the man and apprehended him, holding him until police arrived a short time later.

A 33-year-old man from Mandurah was charged with one count of armed robbery and is due to appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court today.
