MANDURAH couple Karen and Kevin Scott have beaten off fierce competition from around WA to win the WA Franchise Partner of the Year Award at the Poolwerx International Convention in Fiji.

Mrs Scott said the win came on the back of a solid year of sales growth, an indication the local economy was picking up.

“We’ve had an increase in growth this year and this is a good sign that things are turning around in the local area,’’ she said.

The couple started their pool business in Mandurah in 2004 and now have two retail stores in Mandurah and Secret Harbour as well as a mobile pool servicing territory that takes in Secret Harbour, Mandurah, Lake Clifton and Waroona.

The couple service both residential and commercial pools, including strata complexes, retirement villages and a hotel.

“We now employ nine local staff across our retail stores and pool serving business and many of our staff have been with us for a long time; one of our pool technicians has been with us for 11 years,’’ she said.

“One of the great things about running this business is that we can employ local people and help them progress through the industry.’’

Mrs Scott said one of the trends she was seeing with customers was many had been burned buying pool supplies and equipment on the internet.

“We are seeing these people come back to us as they are looking for a level of service and assurance that they are buying quality products they can’t get on line.’’

The couple shows no signs of slowing down and are looking to expand their business.
