Mandurah’s youth performance company Riptide premieres its latest work during the Stretch Festival, with 10 intimate performances at Dolphin Quay next month.

Walk with Me offers a glimpse into Mandurah’s future in a mix of audio and movement.

It is devised and created by the Riptide ensemble and directed by Katt Osborne.

Artistic associate Clea Purkis said exploring the unique mix of sound and motion had been an exciting and challenging process.

“Every new theatrical concept we explore allows us to grow as artists and having a chance to use our creativity in a productive way empowers us as young people in the community,’’ she said.

“This new work involves the audience, actively engaging them in the performance rather than treating them as passive spectators.

“We began exploring the site specific form of the work at Stretch Festival last year but with the help of the State Government’s Royalties for Regions we’ve been able to take the concept to a new level.”

Artistic director Katt Osborne said it was an excellent chance for young people in Mandurah to get involved in Riptide as performance opportunities were opened up to non-ensemble members.

“That’s what Riptide is all about really, empowering young people and giving them a chance to grow in their community.”
