Mandurah schools take part in Koolanga Boordiya leadership program

NINE local schools are taking part in the Koolanga Boordiya (Children’s Leadership) program, an initiative part funded by the Department of Local Government and Communities that aims to engage and provide a voice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to create a more youth friendly community.

The current phase of the long-term project involves a strength based approach to establishing actions to address real and perceived issues in their community, as well as providing cultural experiences and capacity building opportunities.

The project has the potential to engage around 120 students from local private and public schools ranging in age from 10 to 17 years over the four days.

The program started this week at Coodanup College and Halls Head Community College and finishes next Wednesday at John Tonkin College.
