THE Greens will host Mandurah’s first LGBTIQA+ community forum this Friday.

South Metropolitan MLC Lynn MacLaren will host the forum.

“The vast majority of WA’s LGBTIQA+ events are held in Perth but we know that there are community members of all ages outside the city who want to have their voices heard,” Ms MacLaren said.

“I want to find out about the specific issues facing the LGBTIQA+ community living in Mandurah and the regions.”

A panel of speakers from some of WA’s most active LGBTIQA+ organisations will share their personal and professional experiences and invite discussion.

Ms MacLaren said she would talk briefly on some of the issues she had addressed in Parliament and what had been happening in her role as Greens spokesperson for sexuality and gender identity.

She said some of the issues likely to arise included responding to the recent tragedy in Orlando, the Safe Schools debate, marriage equality in Australia and the benefits of programmes like Living Proud and the Freedom Centre.

Panellists will include Australian Marriage Equality WA co-convenor Brian Greig, Living Proud’s Sandra Norman, RTR FM’s Paul Van Liesholt Hunt and Greens Federal candidate for Canning Aeron Blundell-Camden.

The forum is at the Fishtrap Theatre, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on Friday at 6.20pm.
