Mandurah: two siblings charged after allegedly starting melee

TWO siblings from Melbourne have been charged after allegedly kicking off a melee in Smart Street Mall in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police allege a man and woman were engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with security staff and members of the public after being refused entry to a Mandurah nightclub.

The pair then moved into the mall where the disturbance continued.

A female then ran towards the pair and a 21-year-old man punched the woman to the face causing her to fall to the ground.

The victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for a laceration to her lip.

Police allege when a man came to assist the victim, a 24-year-old woman has bitten him to the jaw. His skin was broken causing bleeding.

The man was arrested at the scene, and the woman attended Mandurah Police Station a short time later.

A 21-year-old man from Melbourne has been charged with common assault, disorderly behaviour in a public place and behaving in a disorderly manner in a police station or lock-up.

His sister, a 24-year-old woman from Melbourne, has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and disorderly behaviour in a public place.

A police spokesman said Mandurah detectives are following up the incident to see if further charges will be pressed for the other two people involved in the alleged melee.

They are due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court tomorrow.
