He had also recently become a member of Mandurah State Emergency Service and was a member of the Ulysses Motor Cycle Club, participating in the annual Christmas toy rides.

Mayor Rhys Williams said Mr Bennett made many contributions to the community in many ways over the years.

“We are very grateful for those contributions and on behalf of the City and the council, I extend my condolences to his family during this difficult time,’’ he said.

Mandurah MLA David Templeman said he was sad to learn of Mr Bennett’s passing.

“My thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues from Mandurah Southern Districts Bush Fire Brigade,’’ he said.

“He served as a past captain and was a member of the brigade for a number of years and made a significant contribution to his local brigade and the volunteer bush fire sector.

“He will be sadly missed.”
