Peel Youth Medical Service hopes to roll out the highly successful 3 Tier Youth Mental Health Program in local schools.

The occurrence of mental health issues is high among young people, with more than a quarter of people aged 16 to 24 years old experiencing a mental health disorder each year.

Suicide is the leading cause of death in young people. About half of the disease burden among young people (aged 12 to 25 years) in WA is accounted for by mental illness, and around three-quarters of adult mental health conditions emerge by age 24. The importance of prevention and early intervention in youth mental health is widely acknowledged.

The Peel 3 Tier Youth Mental Health Program involves a presentation by sports personality Heath Black about the importance of physical and mental wellbeing.

n The Youth Appeal will be at Oceanic Bar & Grill, Mandurah on Monday, April 4, at 6pm.

Tickets from GP Down South, PYMS and at www.gpdownsouth.|com.au.
